Responsible Government

In the United States, we have a representative democracy. Our representatives - whether at the local, state or national level enter into an implied agreement with the citizens to implement ideas, have goals and vote in the best interest of the citizens they represent. Currently we have two dominant parties that come from different perspectives. The party that best represents my values is the Democratic Party - inclusive, listening and caring.

The Democratic Party values our civil liberties, education, families, the rights of workers and believes that The American Dream can once again become a reality. Representatives have a responsibility to use our tax dollars wisely and invest these dollars soundly.Representatives should also be accountable for their vote.

Another aspect of this responsibility is to listen and communicate with the citizens. But the agreement is not a one way street.

As members of a representative democracy it is the responsibility of the citizens to communicate with their representatives. Therefore, I invite comments on this site. I invite emails and even phone calls. I want to know what is important to the citizens of our district. I intend to continue this practice as your State Representative.

New Candidate/New Ideas

This year we are seeing many new candidates including myself. We need new ideas. We need fresh energy. And we need change. If we keep voting for people because they have ‘put in their time’ at the local or national level, we will keep getting what we have: foreclosure, job loss, sky rocketing health care costs and rising taxes for the middle class.

I look forward to getting to know all of you during the coming months.

Foreclosure/Sub-Prime Loans/Property Value

It is estimated that the foreclosure rate has risen 145% in the past year! Much of this is due to sub-prime or what I would like to call ‘teaser’ loans. Some is due to unemployment, some due to illness and bankruptcy. This is a societal problem. The key to solving this problem is intervention. [Read more →]

Small Business

Small businesses often create more jobs than most citizens think. As a former small business owner, I know the time and dedication that the owners of these businesses spend promoting and building their business. Many small business owners spend too much time and money on simply paying their various taxes, Social Security and other government obligations. [Read more →]

Jobs/Employment

There is no doubt that NAFTA has caused the loss of too many Ohio jobs. The Miami Valley provides rich opportunity to retrain workers and put people back to work. [Read more →]

Education

In 1997 the Ohio State Supreme Court ruled that our way of funding our schools in Ohio is unconstitutional. So far, the General Assembly has done little except to say that the state can’t help. This calls for immediate attention. Our public schools are relying too heavily upon property taxes and continually burdening the already dwindling middle class with higher taxes.

When we make this a priority in the General Assembly, the money will be found. [Read more →]

Health Care

I believe that health care should be a right - not a luxury. [Read more →]
